Exam Results Survey - November 2001

SAM Learning are pleased to announce a new exam results survey. 95% of the 50 SAM Learning secondary schools taking part improved with an average 6% improvement in the number of students getting 5 or more GCSE A* to C grades in the most active group of schools. Up to 19% increases in results were recorded in some schools. SAM Learning subscribers - including Selly Park, Birmingham and Lodge Park, Northants - are among the most improved schools in the country.

"Our analyses show 19% improvement in Maths KS3 SATs, 10% improvement in Science KS3 SATs and some improvement in GCSE results. SAM Learning has clearly played a major role in this raising of achievement with so many of our pupils using it both at home and in school." September 2001 - Francis Downes, Assessment Coordinator Our Lady Queen of Peace RC High, Skelmersdale, Lancs

How does SAM Learning Improve Grades?

SAM Learning improves grades by focusing on exam practice. Learners discover what examiners are looking for and how to best express their answers for maximum marks. They do this using the SAM Learning Method ® through which students assess their own work using on-screen mark-schemes. SAM stands for Self-Assessment Method.

Because of our focus on exam practice learners can improve significantly with as little as 2 or 3 hours work per subject. And, paradoxically, grades can improve in subjects other than the ones being studied.

Instant feedback of levels/grades breeds confidence. Learners find they CAN answer exam-style questions after all. Improved confidence boosts exam performance by encouraging learners to write their answer down rather than leave a blank, even when unsure; then move-on to complete the required number of questions in time.

Exam practice and self-assessment are proven pedagogies. SAM Learning first used them in educational software 7 years ago. We've been copied since, but never bettered.
