Example Letter to Parents (Homework)

It is important to word your letter to parents carefully. The example below gives the exact Internet address of the homework assignment and lets parents know that Internet is provided at school for Learners without home Internet access.

INTERNET HOMEWORK (Number and Algebra)
MATHEMATICS YR 8

29th November 2000

Dear Parent,

Homework is integral to the mathematics course studied by all Learners. Usually homework is set from a textbook or work sheet. As an extension to this work I have looked at some educational mathematics sites on the Internet, which might be useful and hopefully interesting for Learners.

I realise asking youngsters to use the Internet is quite concerning, because of the implications this media involves, you might like to monitor their progress with this task! If Learners do not have the Internet at home they will have an opportunity to carry out the task set in their lunch hour or after school in our computer rooms.

The address I have given for the homework will direct Learners to the exact page on the Internet. After doing a series of mathematical tasks on an educational website your child will receive a score as a percentage. It would be useful if they could produce a hard copy of their score or write their score in their exercise book and you countersign this for proof of work carried out at home.

I would be most grateful for any of your comments you wish to forward to me in response to this initiative.

The address of this site is as follows:

www.samlearning.com/examrevision/ks3/maths/drag/dm3512.html

Yours sincerely,

Mrs B Jenkins
Mathematics Teacher
